The Villaggio Placido is located in the magnificent Mazzarò Bay with a private access that goes directly down to the beach. A small path that crosses the garden takes you directly to the white sandy beach where you can dive into a crystal clear water that goes from light to cobalt blue.
The Mazzarò Bay is one of three inlets located at the foot of Taormina, right in front of the exit of the cableway station. From this gulf, passing Capo Sant’Andrea, on one side, you will find the other inlet with the little island known as Isola Bella, right in the middle of Capo Taormina and Capo Sant'Andrea. This gulf with Isola Bella is filled with cliffs, small bays and caves. One of the most famous caves is “Grotta Azzurra, known all over the world for its emerald green waters.
In this crystal clear sea also the sea bottom is filled with vegetation and hides a myriad of different types of fish. This is a true paradise for scubadiving buffs. As of 1999 this area is a natural reserve and protected by WWF. The reserve is open to visitors all year round only with a reservation.
For some years now Isola Bella with its two promontories has become Taormina’s touristic image. From the other side, past the promontory of Baia delle Sirene, there is another very beautiful area, the Baia di Spisone, which marks the beginning of the Letojanni coastline.
